Operation Blessing partnered with Rev. Bawa to organize a two-weeks intensive bag making skills acquisition program. Rev. Bawa is the pastor of Covenant Baptist Church, Jahi 2, Abuja. He taught the participants how to make beautiful handbags for women. His daughter, Keziah Bawa, assisted him. We held the training on the church premises.
Operation Blessing equipped some of the trainees with sewing machines and other materials for making bags. Some of the materials we gave include: cardboards, chains, stop bond glue, measuring tapes, rulers, packaging leather, and scissors. This was helpful because many of them could not afford to buy the materials.
In the end, when the facilitator brought out all the finished products they had made, it was an impressive sight to behold! A testament to the importance of learning a skill. Finally, we organized a ceremony to certify and officially graduate all the beneficiaries of the scheme. The atmosphere was right. Every face was gleaming with joy and happiness. The beneficiaries and their loved ones all came, dressed in different, colourful attires to celebrate their families.
The Operation Blessing Nigeria Coordinator, Rev. Kalma, was happy and proud to see what the trainees had accomplished. He congratulated them and thanked them for making themselves available to learn. Furthermore admonished them with the word of God and prayed for them.
On the whole, over 70 women benefited from the bag making skills acquisition training and we gave them certificates of completion. Consequently, we visited the students and many of them had started their businesses and were making a living off the skill they had acquired.
