If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.
Ecclesiastes 11:4 TLB
We have all heard people tell us to “play it safe” in life. But the ones who experience great success in life are those who take the right risks.
In baseball, Babe Ruth held the record for the most home runs but he also held the record for the most strikeouts. Why? Because he didn’t play it safe. He didn’t try for a single or double when he was at bat. When he was swinging, it was for a home run. He swung so hard, one of two things was going to happen. Either he was going to miss, which only meant he could take another try, or he was going to knock the ball out of the park.
When life pitches you the ball, you can play it safe and wait for the perfect pitch, which rarely comes, or you can increase your chances of hitting t out of the park by swinging more and waiting less.
Do you have a dream for a career that seems too big, and are you tempted to shoot for less because you’re afraid to fail? Do you want to witness to a friend but fear striking out, so you don’t try?
Those who are inducted into life’s hall of fame are not the ones who play it safe; they play to win.
Swing at your dreams. You just might surprise yourself with a home run. You will never know until you try.
Commitment Prayer
Lord, help me not to be afraid to take the right risks. I don’t want to confuse recklessness with taking risks. But I also don’t want to get to the end of my life and wonder what I might have been if I would have taken a few more swings. Give me the needed discernment to know when to swing and the strength to hit the ball out of the park. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen!
