“Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” – Psalm 103: 1-5
We all love benefits. Benefits are an advantage or a profit gained from something. Wow! what an incredible thing to realize that we have benefits just by being one of God’s most precious children.
When we read through Psalm 103 it tells us that we should always remember the benefits we carry as children of God. For example, when someone has a good job it can sometimes mean that it comes with some good benefits as part of the package. Things such as medical cover or a contribution to a pension fund are sometimes given over and above your monthly salary, as a benefit to your loyalty to a company. As children of God, we have many benefits, not just the ones mentioned in Psalm 103. They are God’s benefits to us, He gives them to us freely because we belong to Him. He forgives all our sins. All of our sins! Jesus paid the price for our sins and so we can walk in freedom.
I feel that our first benefit, is to truly come to the Lord and He is made Lord of our lives. In that moment we are washed clean from all unrighteousness by His blood and every handwriting that was against us he took and nailed it to the cross. He removed all evidence of our sin. There are no archives for them. He heals all our diseases. By His stripes we are healed. There is no sickness that was not covered. He is the Lord our healer. Who also delivers us from the pit or grave or destruction. He looks out for us and makes sure we are not destroyed by the enemy. The Lord sends His angels to encamp around us to deliver us when we are in trouble and also sends us help in many other ways.
I have many testimonies of how God has delivered me from destruction many times and I know you do too. What an amazing benefit. The Lord who created heaven and earth, who made all things is looking out for you. We can rest assured in His kindness towards us and we can feel so safe in His arms. He crowns us with loving kindness and compassion. That is who he is. He is compassionate, full of loving-kindness and He is slow to anger. It is His kindness that leads us to repentance. He has mercy on us. He remembers we are dust and we are weak and so He feels compassion for us. That is why he sent Jesus to die for us. He renews our youth. Jesus came to give us abundant life. He brought life instead of death. Blessed be the Lord who daily loads us with benefits.
Pray this prayer today: Lord thank you so much for the benefits we have in You as your children. Thank you for loving us so much that you give us more than we deserve. Help me not to forget the benefits and to be always thankful for them in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen”
