“I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” – Psalm 16:8
It is encouraging to know that the Lord will never abandon our souls, and because of this we can walk unshaken. God is totally committed to making us Holy in this world so that we can draw nearer to Him. Thankfully, this is a process that doesn’t happen overnight and there is time for Him to work in us and through us as we journey on. At times, holiness comes through difficult things and certainly at a cost. God knows that His children choose to walk the narrow path in this life. (Matthew 7:13-14).
David has set the Lord before him. If we have someone or something before us and we have placed them in front of us, we will always know where to look when we move forward. Just like David I want to make sure that God is my point of focus. David totally trusts that God is a great goal to fix his eyes on. It is as if this end goal we choose should be something that gives life and motivation to all we do, so that we never become weary but press on towards the goal.
I am reminded of this promise made to those who keep their eyes fixed on the Lord in Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
If the Lord is our only authority and focus, just like He is David’s, then we truly will not be shaken and our perseverance will never run out.
