I Am With You. Genesis 26:24 NKJV – And the Lord appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for My servant Abraham’s sake.”
In Genesis 26, there was a famine in the land where Isaac and his family were living. I can only imagine what might have been happening. In farming communities, famine is the most dreaded thing. What usually happens in times like this is, everyone gets into panic mode, the next thing is to leave the land, FLEE! People move, fleeing to another village, town, or country in search of food. Isaac did the same, he moved to Gerar.
Isaac was probably thinking of moving to Egypt from there because, in vs. 2-3, God tells Isaac not to go to Egypt. Other people must have been doing this (as they still did in Joseph’s time), but God instructed Isaac to stay in the land where there was famine.
Of course, to the human mind, this doesn’t make sense. The first human instinct is always survival, so I’m sure Isaac must have been a little frightened, but he trusted God. And in vs. 12, the Bible recorded that Isaac planted in the same land and reaped a hundred times more than he had planted. It also states that God blessed and favoured him. In the midst of a famine?
Oh yes! In fact, in vs. 16 we see that Isaac became so wealthy that the Philistine King Abimelech, asked him to leave the land. His reason was unbelievable “Go away from us, for you are much mightier than we.” Isaac became mightier than a whole King and his people because God was with him. We see this secret to his success in Genesis 26:24, our text for today.
Dear friends, you have the same secret weapon Isaac had. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is your God! He is saying the same thing to you today: “Fear Not (insert your name) for I Am with You.”
Prayer:
Father, I thank you today because I know that you are with me even in this pandemic. Today, I fix my eyes on you. You are my guide, provider, protector and sustainer. Lead me and guide me through these difficult times in Jesus name.
FEAR NOT 365
Many times in the midst of all the chaos in our lives we forget one simple truth, FEAR NOT is not a piece of advice. It’s a command, an instruction from the Almighty God, the creator of the entire universe, the owner of the heavens and all the earth. And all we have to do is trust and obey Him.
