I Am God. Genesis 46:3 NKJV – So He said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not fear to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there.

The story of Joseph has encouraged many for generations, and God wants to use this same story to remind you that he is in control, or as he says in our verse for today  “I Am God.”

For us to appreciate this promise made to Jacob in our text today, let’s look back to where the story began. In Genesis 37:33-35, Jacob believed that a wild beast killed his son, Joseph, his son from the wife he loved. So, he mourned greatly. Rachael, his precious wife died, and his beloved son seemed lost forever. Read vs. 34 and 35:

Then Jacob tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his son many days. And all his sons and all his daughters arose to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted, and he said, “For I shall go down into the grave to my son in mourning.”

Now, fast forward to chapter 45. Jacob could not believe what he was hearing. “And they told him, saying, “Joseph is still alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt.” And Jacob’s heart stood still because he did not believe them. But when they told him all the words which Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived.” Genesis 45:26.

Life can be very unpredictable because it is filled with many ups and downs and uncertainties at every turn. However, our God is unchangeable, all-knowing, all-powerful, and in absolute control of everything. So He reminds us to today of that fact saying, “Fear Not, I Am God.”

God knows the end from the beginning, and this is the comfort we have in such unpredictable times. We know the God of the universe. In our verse for today, He even went further to encourage Jacob by hinting him of what will happen in the future. Can you beat that? Truly, our God is in absolute control.

Father, I thank you for the reminder that you are in absolute control. Today I will not fear because I am confident of this one fact: YOU ARE GOD!

Many times in the midst of all the chaos in our lives we forget one simple truth, FEAR NOT is not a piece of advice. It’s a command, an instruction from the Almighty God, the creator of the entire universe, the owner of the heavens and all the earth. And all we have to do is trust and obey Him.
