Hope and Faith | Pillars of Hope | Part 1

If you missed the intro to this devotional series… Quickly read it here.

Our hope must be anchored in something, in someone. It must be in someone who is undeniable, who is consistent and true, who remains and who cannot be moved. Hope in a good idea or noble plan is not hope at all, it is wishful thinking, at best, and a gamble at worst. Hope in Jesus comes with promises – and He always keeps His promises.

Where there seems to be no way, God makes a way. In fact, He calls Himself the Way. We don’t have to seek far and wide in the Bible to find testimonies of hope fulfilled. To us, Hope comes from an encounter with the truth of God. Hope is what is ignited in our souls when we read a verse, a promise or a testimony that speaks right into our circumstance and lifts us in a way that only the Holy Spirit can. But we must believe, we cannot have true hope without true faith. And faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of Christ (Romans 10:17). It must be known, if your hope is not in the promises of God, be it from scripture or spoken to your heart by the voice of the Spirit, you will find it difficult to have hope. Faith in Jesus keeps our hope alive.

If Hope is a person, we cannot have hope unless we have faith in Jesus. Hope without Jesus will eventually amount to nothing. It will end with a feeling of disappointment or an unfulfilled desire. Hope and faith walk hand in hand. We base our hope in our faith in the promises of God. We can have hope because He has proven Himself to be faithful all throughout Scripture.

“ We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” – Hebrews 6:19

but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
